Supposedly this is the month the USA pilot adaptation of Shameless begins shooting, with Billy M. as our favorite horrible drunk. I am so glad this has moved to Showtime as opposed to NBC, because I can’t imagine Frank any less sober, and American audiences are going to be horrified (I was). William H. Macy is the perfect person for this part, I remember hearing at one point it was going to be Woody Harrelson? How could anyone put up with his supposed BO for the amount of time it takes to shoot a TV series. They would need the rest of the cast to be pro-method.

I cannot wait to see this! I miss these types of movies. But, if...

But I’m pregnant and tired. Supposedly I’m supposed to stop sleeping so much now. I even had enough energy to read a book this week. Maybe next week I’ll have enough energy to watch a movie. It’s 9:56 right now, and I’m still up and don’t feel like I’m about to die. That’s a good sign!

It’s a kind of calligraphy, these ringlets and waves, hair combed, twisted and pinned. My friend Paul is convinced since adding The Onion to his RSS feed that the titles alone are more than enough joke and no one needs to read the actual story, since we have all been reading The Onion for what, 10 years now, and we know the joke. In San Diego, all that is left of the Aztec Bowl is this sign on a new apartment complex. But I will always remember the night in college that my friend Carl made out with a 40-something homeless alcoholic on the trunk of my car in the parking lot while I was in the car, then later jumped off the top of a camper while singing Fat Bottomed Girls. Ah, memories.

Dislikes gay pride month

June has been declared National Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,Transgender Pride Month by President Obama. I must protest this declaration. I know he is not the first president to do this, but come on! Isn’t this just a little bit silly?

I am weary of hearing about other citizens’ sexual habits. I am proud to be a heterosexual, but I don’t get a month to squawk about it. I am being discriminated against!

This declaration is so ridiculous. Can’t these people get a real life and quit whining and shoving their bedroom behavior in our faces!

I have had it up to the proverbial “‘here”! Why not be proud of contributions to society’s greater good, or helping the less fortunate?

Someday, whoever “they” are who are so “proud,” will grow up and take a place in society instead of ripping it apart.

Being cool in Fresno

My friend and I were talking after we observed a couple of young men walking by. We thought that they truly are racially unbiased and actually respectful of other ethnicities.

No matter what background they come from, many of our youth are paying homage to one of our greatest comedians of all time, Cantinflas. They all are emulating him by wearing their pants half way down their derriere and exposing their underwear, just the way Cantinflas did for so many years. Here we always thought they just looked silly and were trying to be cool by copying many of today’s recording artists.

This would be cultured, except for the beginning where he makes sure you know that they are not, in fact, Mexican. If you call them racially unbiased, you cannot possibly be racially biased. Don’t give up the fight! We will win the war against the derriere! But here I guess I must side with the Bee, this is too hilarious not to share with the world.

Defending white men

Ron Kryngel [letter June 15] rather comically laid the blame for the recent murder of a late-term abortionist and a security guard at the Holocaust museum squarely at the feet of “gun-toting white guys.”

I know that it’s not politically correct for white guys to cry foul, but in spite of Mr. Kryngel’s obvious racial bigotry and other limitations, I want to say the following: I am a white guy and I own a few guns, but I’ve never shot anyone in the U.S., or elsewhere for that matter, unless they were shooting at me.

I have numerous gun-toting white friends, and not one of them endorsed the murder of this abortionist or has ill feelings toward Israel. Mr. Kryngel’s little rant is indicative of the silly bias many people hold against whites/guns/Christians and conservatives. Murder is murder, and one’s race, politics or methods are of little consequence.

I don’t find terrorists disgusting because so many of them are Arabs or even Muslims. I find terrorists disgusting because so many of them so willingly kill and then blame God. Nothing justifies murder.

Mr. Kryngel owes white men an apology.

So did DJ just admit to shooting someone, or am I wrong. It’s hard to live your life under the persistent climate of racist attitudes and attacks toward your people. We all feel sorry for you, DJ. Printing your letter was just the beginning of our apology.

Reading racist and bigoted letters to the editor has long been a passion of mine. It’s like nasty commenters, but endorsed and published in print for all eternity. Do they still make microfiche? Kids searching old records for school projects in 50 years will be able to read these and be filled with pride. The Fresno Bee gives gold, which is embarrassing out of my hometown, but at least they have the excuse of being a small-town paper. They probably don’t get too many letters, and I bet they are mostly from the same retirees every single day, so if they don’t want to make them up, they are probably forced to print this awful, offensive garbage. But I still don’t forgive them. But one paper that doesn’t have that excuse is The Orange County Register. I went to college in Irvine, and we got the paper for free with our phone service, and those letters didn’t even bother to come at their bigotry and racism from an oblique angle. It was just flat out talk about the blacks, homos, and mexicans. We used to cut them out and put them up on our fridge.
